About Katling Cats
History: I purchased my first Siamese cat, Samantha, a Chocolate Point
female Siamese, in 1970 and have been owned by Siamese ever since!
Several years later I acquired Pookie & Pascha, a brother and sister pair of
Seal Pt. kittens who spent two decades with me. I lost my beloved Pookie to
renal failure in March 1993, at 19-1/2 years of age. Soon afterwards, I began a
search for a companion for his grieving sister (and me). While I had every
intention of purchasing another Seal Pt. male "Applehead" Siamese, I fell in
love with a very precocious Blue Pt. female. I thought it would be a neat
experience "for the kids" if we bred her, so "Miss Imperial Star's Mistoffelees"
(aka "Misty") was purchased with breeding rights - and of course, it was ME who
got hooked on breeding!
Misty's first official breeding was to "Sir Imperial Star Midnight Samurai." A
year later, I lost Pookie's sister, Pascha, to renal failure. I kept the only
female from this litter and named her "Katling's Pascha Mai Lu." Both "Misty"
and "Pascha" were prolific breeders (it was not unusual to have 7 or 8 kittens
in a litter with these girls!). Their lines remain in every kitten I breed
today.
In the Spring of 1994, I met a local breeder, Lois Orrell of Lorrell Siamese, at
a cat show. She was one of the few breeders that would talk with an obscure,
hobby breeder and was receptive to letting me breed with her lines. Lois proved
to be a wonderful mentor and I owe much of my success to her guidance. She has
since moved back to Ohio, but I continue to rely on her expertise and quality
breed lines.
Another tremendous influence on my breeding program came when I met Dr.
Elizabeth Miller. She has since opened her own cats-only veterinary practice,
Pleasant Valley Cat Clinic in Moorestown, NJ, and has provided the technical
(and sometimes emotional) support and knowledge that every good breeder depends
on to maintain healthy cats and kittens.
"Katling Cats" was officially registered as my cattery name on May 8, 1996 after
successfully completing three years of training in the "fine art of breeding."
In February 1997, I achieved CFA's "Cattery of Excellence" certification. I
am very proud to have consistently maintained this prestigious
certification. The process involved to receive a Cattery of Excellence
accreditation is extensive and I have received near perfect scores year
after year. Click here to view current certificate.
In August 2002, I acquired my first Oriental Shorthair kitten, "Tikatuk Halle of
Katling Cats," a stunning Chestnut female, sired by my stud, "GC Lorrell's
AMR.Goodbar" (aka "Chico") and Towishcats Bronzed Faye of Tikatuk. I never
believed another breed could match the incredible disposition of a Siamese, but
this breed is every bit as precocious and outgoing! I just recently acquired a
second Oriental, "Tikatuk Mazie-Jane of Katling Cats," a Lavender female who's
keeping everyone around here on their toes!
My breeding philosophies have remained consistent throughout the years: Do
whatever is necessary to produce and maintain healthy, well socialized kittens
and adults. I sell quality-bred kittens as pets only to caring, loving people
who are willing to treat them as an esteemed member of their family and spoil
them rotten!
